CFP Foundation and Allstate Sugar Bowl Donate $200,000 To Teach For America
IRVING, Texas –The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation and the Allstate Sugar Bowl today announced a $200,000 donation to Teach For America in New Orleans. The donations were announced at a Tuesday press conference in New Orleans.
“We are excited about this partnership with the Allstate Sugar Bowl and Teach For America,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. “We share the common objective of improving communities through education, which can only occur by supporting the development of teachers, our greatest asset.”
Teach For America works with local communities to expand educational opportunities for children facing the challenges of poverty. Teach For America has three components to its approach: enlist diverse individuals to become teachers in low-income communities; develop, train and support corps members in leadership qualities; and mobilize as many individuals as possible to strengthen the movement for educational excellence.
“The Allstate Sugar Bowl is proud of its ongoing efforts to help this great community,” said T. Carey Wicker, III, President of the Sugar Bowl Committee. “Every boy and girl, regardless of economics, deserves the opportunity to have an educational environment that gives them every chance to succeed. We hope our donation, which has been generously matched by the College Football Playoff, will enable Teach For America to enhance its already significant efforts in New Orleans.”
The donation to Teach For America will augment the efforts to strengthen education in low-income areas.
“The disparities of poverty unfortunately often limit the life prospects of our young people. We are proud to partner with the Sugar Bowl Committee and the College Football Playoff Foundation to address and overcome the challenges our students, families and educators face. Through the common pursuit of this goal we know we can give all children a world-class education that equips them to be tomorrow’s leaders by providing ongoing training, support, and leadership development to our Teach For America teachers,” said Kira Orange Jones, Executive Director for Teach For America – Greater New Orleans-Louisiana Delta.
