College Football Playoff Announces Details of Community Events in Conjunction With National Championship Game
Extra Yard for Teachers Summit, Extra Yard 5K and Northwestern Mutual Taste of the Championship to be held in Arizona during national championship game weekend
IRVING, Texas – The College Football Playoff (CFP) today announced additional information about the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit, the Extra Yard 5K and the Northwestern Mutual Taste of the Championship. The three events, established in the inaugural year of the playoff benefit and honor teachers through the CFP Foundation and its primary philanthropic initiative, Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT).
“As part of the celebration of the College Football Playoff National Championship, we host a series of community events in the days before the game,” said College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock. “Through these events, we want to provide resources to the local community in the Valley of the Sun and allow more people to share in the pageantry of the championship.”
The Extra Yard for Teachers Summit, Saturday, January 9, 2016, is an energetic half-day event featuring inspiring speakers and passionate performances celebrating local K-through-12 teachers. It will be at the Phoenix Convention Center, and include speakers and performers from around the country. It will also feature local teachers through the I Teach Project, an initiative to capture the voices and stories of teachers. A full line-up of speakers and performers will be announced later this fall. Teachers in the Phoenix area may reserve their free tickets to attend the summit through November 30 at www.extrayardsummit.com.
Extra Yard 5K, the official race of the College Football Playoff National Championship, will be Sunday morning, January 10, 2016. Teachers will be honored at the race. In addition, attendees of the EYFT Teachers Summit the previous day will receive free registration for the event. The pre-registration fee is $25. The on-site registration fee on January 10 will be $35. The overall male and female winners in the 5K will each win two tickets to the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship. All registrants will also be entered to win a pair of tickets to the national championship game.

The Northwestern Mutual Taste of the Championship will be Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the Phoenix Convention Center. The ticketed event will provide attendees the opportunity to sample gourmet food and beverages representing geographic regions from around the country. Headlining the event will be renowned Food Network celebrity chef, Beau MacMillan, executive chef at Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain and its featured restaurant, elements.
Additional Arizona-area chefs participating in the event will include Kevin Binkley (Binkley’s), Richard Boyer (The Phoenician), Matthew Carter (Zinc Bistro), Sean Currid (Blue Hound at Palomar Hotel), Massimo De Francesca (Taggia at FireSky), Christopher Gross (Christopher’s & Crush Lounge), Eddie Matney (Eddie’s House), Gio Osso (Virtu) and Gregory Wiener (Top of the Rock at Marriott at the Buttes).
Five chefs from Playoff Semifinal host cities will also be in attendance, including David Holben (Del Frisco’s; Dallas), Chris Lusk (Restaurant R’evolution; New Orleans), Kevin Rathbun (Rathbun’s; Atlanta), Steve Samson (Sotto; Los Angeles) and Allen Susser (Chef Allen’s Café; Miami). Chef Paul Shaver (Mad Dogs and Englishmen) from Tampa, Fla., host city to the 2017 CFP National Championship, will also be featured.
The event, produced by Wayne Kostroski and Max Kittel, will feature live music and appearances from former college football stars. Kostroski and Kittel are the founder and producer of Taste of the NFL, the premier food and wine event of the Super Bowl for 24 years.
The Northwestern Mutual Taste of the Championship will honor and celebrate local teachers. Tickets to the event are $250 each.
