Fifth Annual Extra Yard 5K to be January 6 in San Jose

Registration Now Open for Event that Benefits Extra Yard for Teachers
IRVING, Texas – The fifth annual Extra Yard 5K run/walk will take place Sunday, January 6, 2019, at 8 a.m. in San Jose, Calif. As the “official race for teachers,” all proceeds benefit Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT), the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation’s primary platform which is dedicated to elevating the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers.
Online registration for the Extra Yard 5K is now live at EY5K.com. Registration includes a participant shirt, a finisher’s medal, a race bib, one ticket to the CFP’s interactive fan event, Playoff Fan Central, and one entry into a drawing to win two tickets to the 2019 CFP National Championship Monday, January 7, 2019 at Levi’s Stadium.
“We are thrilled to bring the Extra Yard 5K to the Bay Area as part of the CFP Foundation’s programming during championship weekend,” said Ryan Allen Hall, Director of Community Relations for the CFP. “The Bay Area is known for fostering education as well as a commitment to health and fitness. Marrying both the education and fitness initiatives in this community will yield great results for this event and certainly the Extra Yard for Teachers platform.”
The Extra Yard 5K race will start and end in the heart of the championship campus in downtown San Jose, where all the action around the CFP’s public events will take place. The event will include live entertainment, activities with race sponsors and a post-race awards ceremony. Awards will be given to the top-three finishers in each age group. In addition, the top overall male and the top overall female will each win two tickets to the CFP National Championship.
Soul Focus Sports, the production partner of the Extra Yard 5K, will host a “Kick-Off” run tonight, August 21, at 6 p.m. PT at the San Jose-Willow Glen location of Athletic Performance. Runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to participate in a three-to-five-mile fun run/walk. Fans can learn more about the Extra Yard 5K, get great deals from Athletic Performance, and enjoy “Taco Tuesday” at Aqui’s next door. Athletic Performance is located at 1115 Lincoln Ave. in San Jose.
