Sun Belt Conference, College Football Playoff Foundation Go the Extra Yard for Teachers

September 14, 2018

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference and the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation are partnering up in 2018-19 to recognize teachers through the CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) platform.

The CFP Foundation created EYFT Week in 2015 to provide an opportunity for universities, coaches and student-athletes to take part in its mission of elevating the teaching profession through inspiring and empowering teachers, and to create awareness for the growing EYFT platform. Now in the event’s fourth year, the CFP Foundation is looking to build even more momentum for the support of teachers nationwide.

Each of the 10 Sun Belt football-playing institutions will receive a $10,000 grant from the CFP Foundation to use in their respective local communities to recognize teachers for their hard work and dedication and to provide classroom supplies and professional development resources.

In addition, Sun Belt institutions will recognize teachers at football games during Extra Yard for Teachers Week (Sept. 15-22) on their respective campuses via pregame and in-game presentations on the field and videoboards as well as during live broadcasts on the ESPN family of networks. The conference will also recognize the Extra Yard for Teachers initiative via pregame and in-game presentations during the inaugural 2018 Sun Belt Football Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 1. The game will be played at the site of the division winner with the best conference record and will be carried live on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

“Taking opportunities to celebrate the educators who have affected our student-athletes in so many ways is at the core of the mission and values of the Sun Belt Conference,” said Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson. “We are thrilled to recognize these individuals for their tireless efforts and we are thankful to the CFP Foundation for their continued leadership in honoring teachers across the country.”

“Teachers are the most valuable resource in our country, and we are grateful to partner with the Sun Belt Conference in highlighting and celebrating great teachers who are educating the next generation,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. “Extra Yard for Teachers Week is a special opportunity to recognize and reinforce the tremendous value that teachers contribute to our communities.”

About the Sun Belt Conference

Entering the second decade of the new millennium, the Sun Belt Conference continues to challenge itself, and its competitors, in all aspects of intercollegiate athletics. Not content with being simply the youngest football conference in the Football Bowl Subdivision, the conference has shown that it can rise each and every season that comes along. And since the birth of the league as an FBS member in 2001, the evidence is clear that the conference is indeed rising above competitors and peer conferences.
