CFP FOUNDATION GOES BIG FOR TEACHERS NATIONWIDE WITH THE BIG DAY

Largest Single-Day Effort of Community Impact

Ever Undertaken by the Extended College Football Family

IRVING, Texas –The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation and its partners will go big to support teachers with the BIG DAY on Monday, September 14. The BIG DAY is a national day of supporting and celebrating teachers, by saying “thank you” to amazing educators dedicated to helping our kids learn.

This is the largest single-day effort of community impact ever undertaken by the extended college football family. It comes as teachers perform their essential duties against the extraordinary backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. As schools across the country have been closed for in-person learning, teachers have found a way to keep kids learning. More than 150 partners across the country are expected to participate in the CFP Foundation’s initiative, including universities, conferences, bowl games, high schools, and corporate and educational organizations.

“We are proud of America’s teachers and honored that college football is in a position to support them in so many ways,” said CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock.

The CFP Foundation is the largest sports entity supporting K-12 education in America. More than $4 million in grants, direct aid and desperately needed resources are slated to be awarded to teachers and educators on the BIG DAY.

“We are thrilled to have so many generous partners share our passion for supporting teachers,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. “We are grateful for the work they do every day and excited to be able to focus our collective work on one big day. We need teachers more than ever right now. They represent the single-most important factor in a student’s success and their commitment to educating our kids during this challenging time is to be admired and commended.”

Activities expected around the BIG DAY include (but are not limited to):

· Miami 2021 Host Committee’s middle school redesign impact strategy, with $2 million in renovations in the works for South Florida schools

· Student-athletes, coaches and other college football personalities slated to surprise teachers

· School makeovers in New Orleans and Florida

· Surprises for teachers in Atlanta and the Bay Area

· ESPN and its conference networks to surprise teachers on-air with $20,000 in gift cards for classroom resources

· Grants for teachers will be announced in Phoenix, Indianapolis, New Orleans and Dallas, among other markets

· The CFP Foundation and the National Teachers Hall of Fame to surprise five finalists on their induction into the 2020 class

Extra Yard for Teachers Week (September 12-19, 2020)

Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) Week is a nationwide celebration of teachers, led by the CFP Foundation within the platform of college football. Created in 2015, EYFT Week provides an opportunity for universities, coaches and student-athletes to take part in its mission of elevating the teaching profession through inspiring and empowering teachers, as well as creating awareness for the growing EYFT platform.

The CFP Foundation encourages all to envision a country in which our greatest assets, teachers, are given the resources, recognition and professional development to help them prepare students for success. Since its inception, the CFP Foundation has invested approximately $38 million in support of K-12 education, supporting more than 311,000 teachers nationwide and creating a positive impact for more than seven million students.
