CFP Foundation Joins With the US Department of Education and ASCD to Support the Teach to Lead Summit in San Jose

Teacher Leadership Weekend Workshop Focuses on STEAM Methods and Philosophy
IRVING, Texas – The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation has joined with the United States Department of Education and ASCD to support the 16th Teach to Lead Summit, a teacher leadership workshop in San Jose, Calif., September 28-30, 2018. The summit is centered on science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) teaching methods and philosophy, bringing leading teachers and other stakeholders together to discuss ideas, develop teacher leadership and work to improve STEAM learning for all students.
“As part of the overall effort to positively impact teachers in the Bay Area, we’re thrilled to continue our partnership with ASCD and support the Teach to Lead Summit in San Jose,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. “ASCD made valuable in-kind investments to support literary outcomes in Atlanta as part of the 2018 CFP National Championship. The investments they are making in the Bay Area in partnership with the CFP and the Bay Area Host Committee will once again make a huge difference for local educators.”
Teach to Lead, a partnership of the US Department of Education and ASCD, supports teachers as valued experts in instruction and students’ needs. The summit provides educators with time to collaborate, develop skills and consult with other professionals, and an opportunity to develop and assess innovative STEAM ideas that can make a positive impact for students in their schools, communities, districts and states. Since its inception, Teach to Lead has had direct involvement with more than 6,500 educators, gaining the help of 167 supporting organizations, and building a social media following of more than 20,000.
“I am pleased we are able to once again bring teachers together to solve problems of practice and to lead from the classroom,” said ASCD Executive Director Deborah Delisle. “Our work with the College Football Playoff Foundation continues to align with our own mission of helping every educator, in every role, be extraordinary in learning, teaching and leading, so that every child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged.”
The summit will include breakout meetings to develop new skills and collaboration time for teams of educators and other key stakeholders from around the country. Tasks will include how to work together to develop a local idea into a complete plan, obtain support from outside organizations to advance their work, as well as build relationships with ASCD, the CFP Foundation, the US Department of Education, Teach Plus and other national and local organizations.
The support of the CFP Foundation and US Department of Education for the event helps provide participants with free registration, hotel accommodations for out-of-town guests, complimentary parking for those traveling 50 miles or fewer, and some meals during the summit.
